Tracey Schowalter, dog trainer and behavior consultant

Tracey Schowalter is the Dog Training and Behavior Consultant at Puppy Adept, Inc. A graduate of Georgia State University, she has been training professionally since 2000, and her own pets (dogs, cats, and a parrot) since she was a child. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), of a newly formed association called the Georgia Alliance of Positive Dog Trainers (GAPDT), an associate member of the Association of Animal Behavior Professionals (AABP).

Tracey is a certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and is currently studying for her CPDT (Certified Pet Dog Trainer). She graduated from first and second levels of the Intern Academy of reknowned author, editor and former President of the APDT, Pat Miller. Tracey has attended lectures and workshops over the last eight years featured such giants in the industry as Dr. Patricia McConnell, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dr. Karen Overall, Dr. Ray Coppinger, Dr. Pamela Reid, Pat Miller, Karen Pryor, Kathy Sdao, Ken Ramirez, Jean Donaldson, Terry Ryan and many other ethologists, behaviorists and top trainers in the industry.

When you attend a Puppy Adept, Inc. training class, rest assured you are receiving training based on current dog training methods and learning and behavior theory. Classes are taught using reward-based methods, specifically clicker training.

A long history of concern for animal welfare and an abiding love of animals has led Tracey to volunteer with various organizations such as The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of Hall County (HSHC), and a brief stint with Zoo Atlanta. At the HSHC, she teaches two free one-hour workshops for new puppy and dog owners. She offers Manners and More training classes three or four times a year at the HSHC and is working with staff on a training program for volunteers there. Tracey is driven by a desire to see the relationships of dogs and their guardians flourish. She shares her home with two dogs and a husband.
